WPD: Hit and run suspect told victim car damage “not bad” before taking off

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department is searching for the man involved in a hit and run that happened in late July.

Police have obtained warrants for Robert Jovan Thompson, 33.

Police say Thompson struck a Wilmington woman’s car at the intersection of 6th and Dock Streets after running a stop sign.

Police say the victim swerved to avoid the crash, but Thompson still hit the front of her vehicle.

Thompson and the other driver got out of their cars to look at the damage, when Thompson allegedly told the other driver he would not stay to file a report because he had illegal drugs in his car.

He then told the victim the damage was “not bad,” and then took off.

Officers investigated and determined Thompson, of Pender County, was the driver.

He’s charged with hit and run leaving the scene with property damage, operating a vehicle without insurance and operating a vehicle without a license.

If you know where Thompson is, call the WPD at (910) 343-3609 or use Text-a-Tip.
