Police identify man killed in shooting on Market St.
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police are investigating the city’s second murder since Sunday, and this one happened in broad daylight on one of the city’s busiest streets.
Investigators said they found Ali Iquan Dameish Rouse, 21, shot to death in his car in the 1900 block of Market Street. A police spokeswoman said Rouse was the driver of a small Toyota that hit the driver of a Honda CRV. The crash happened some time after 11 a.m., and police believe he was shot at a nearby apartment complex prior to the traffic incident. The other driver was not harmed.
Police said they are talking with one person of interest but there have been no charges filed at this time. That area of Market Street was shut down for some time, while detectives collected evidence.
Neighbor Richard Joblonicky says he did not know what was going on outside of his house until police told him.
“When I first came out the front door I thought it was yet another accident on Market Street,” Joblonicky said. “There is a car up on the sidewalk and another one on the curb. I don’t know what happened, but you know obviously it wasn’t good.”
This is the second homicide since early Sunday morning, when police found a man shot to death in a car near S. 6th and Kidder streets. No arrests have been made in that case.
