WPD: Man tries to ditch heroin in back of patrol car after arrest

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police arrested a Wilmington man they say tried to get rid of heroin while in the back of a patrol car on the way to the police station Friday night.

Wilmington Police say around 9 p.m., officers stopped a speeding car for expired tags and having a headlight out in the 100 block of Kenwood Ave. That’s when officers say Dominique Waddell, 24, of Wilmington first gave officers a fake name.

Police say they found nothing when they searched Waddell’s car, but discovered a gun in his pants when they searched him. After officers arrested him for carrying a concealed weapon, police say Waddell tried to ditch a bag of heroin in the back of the patrol car on the way to the station.

Waddell was also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of heroin, and is booked in the New Hanover County Jail under $50,000 bond. Jail records show Waddell is also facing charges for domestic violence protective order violations.
