WPD officer shoots man armed with a gun

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A WPD officer shot a Wilmington man who was armed with a gun on Friday.

According to WPD, officers observed a person in the area of 14th and Nun St. riding a bike and wearing a ski mask on December 27th around 11:30 p.m. When the bike rider noticed officers, he jumped from his bike and ran on foot.

As the person was running, officers observed a gun in the person’s hand; they yelled commands to drop his gun. As officers were in pursuit, the subject began to turn around with the gun. A WPD officer fired shots that struck the person.

The person was taken into custody and has been identified as Savion Wilson, 23, of Wilmington. Wilson’s gun and narcotics were retrieved at the scene.

Wilson is facing numerous charges, including but not limited to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and narcotics charges.

Wilson is in custody and is in serious but stable condition.
