WPD PAL program hits Academy Sports for a back to school blast

This was the first time they could hold a before school supply drive for the students in the month of August.
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – The Wilmington Police Activities League or ‘PAL’ got in some early back to school shopping thanks to the folks over at Academy Sports and Outdoors.

Thirty members of after school program filled their shopping carts from sneakers to sports shirts. The retail chain donated each PAL student a $100 gift card to shop for some back to school essentials. PAL students and coordinators could not have asked for a better way to get ready to get back to school.

“They’re just really appreciative of it. And they enjoy the opportunity for their children to have a positive interaction with police officers,” said Officer Deborah Wolfson who is the head coordinator for the PAL program. “They’re just very appreciative.”

WPD’S PAL athletics program will kick off more after school events in the coming weeks.
