WPD says complaints, internal investigations down
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington Police Department report shows the number of citizen complaints and internal investigations was down for the department last year.
In a news release, spokeswoman Linda Rawley said WPD received 46 citizen complaints in 2014 compared to 50 in 2013. The agency also went from 21 to 13 internal investigations, Rawley said.
“It is undeniable that there is a tremendous expectation from law enforcement officers to live to a higher standard. With that in mind it is my job as your Chief of Police to monitor the actions of our officers to ensure that this standard is not compromised,” Police Chief Ralph Evangelous said in a statement.
