WPD: Validated gang member punches deputy during traffic stop

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department arrested four Wilmington men, who are reportedly validated gang members, over the weekend for crimes involving guns. Three of them are also facing drug charges.

Police say these arrests are a direct result of WPD’s increased patrols following a rash of shootings in November.

ARRESTS:

  • Dy’Kill Williams, 18, validated gang member: Possession of a firearm by a felon, carrying a concealed weapon without a permit
    • NARRATIVE: Around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, WPD says officers were patrolling the area of Maides Park when they located a suspicious vehicle with multiple people  inside of it at the back of the park. The City of Wilmington’s ordinance states nobody shall be in the parks 30 minutes after the sun sets. Officers reportedly found a gun inside the cars after the driver consented to a search. Williams, who initially provided a fake name, told officers the firearm belonged to him, police say. Williams was arrested and taken to the New Hanover County Jail. He was given a $126,000 total bond.
  • Andre Hall, 31, validated gang member: Felony assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, resisting/delaying/obstructing a public officer, driving while license revoked, possession with intent to sell/distribute schedule I controlled substance, maintain vehicle with a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, manufacture/sell/distribute a controlled substance within 1000 feet of a park, injury to personal property and a window tint violation; Xavier Hall, 26, validated gang member: Resisting/delaying/obstructing a public officer, carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm with an altered serial number
    • NARRATIVE: Around 2 p.m. on Sunday, officers were patrolling in the 500 block of Anderson Street when they conducted a traffic stop. Once the vehicle stopped, both people got out of the car. Xavier Hall then tried to run away. After short foot chase, officers arrested him. Officers reportedly located a loaded firearm, with an altered serial number, on him. During this time, Andre Hall also tried to leave the scene. When a New Hanover County sherriff’s deputy with the WPD Mobile Field Force confronted Andre Hall, he allegedly punched the deputy in the face causing injury. Officers say they found 45 bindles of heroin on Hall. Both were transported to the New Hanover County Jail. Andre Hall received a $230,000 secured bond. Xavier Hall received a $100,000 secured bond.
  • Calvin Maynor, 39, validated gang member: Possession of a firearm by felon, possession of a stolen firearm, carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, trafficking by possession, trafficking by transportation, maintain a vehicle with a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell/distribute schedule II controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting/delaying/obstructing a public officer, simple possession of schedule VI controlled substance, possession of MDMA, reckless driving.
    • NARRATIVE: While on patrol in the Creekwood area, officers stopped a car speeding around 2:30 p.m. Friday. Police say the driver, Maynor, immediately got out of the car, but was quickly arrested. Maynor reportedly had a stolen firearm, nearly 80 grams of cocaine, seven dosage units of MDMA, 20 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Maynor was served with a parole warrant from Wake County, and a habitual felon warrant from Brunswick. He was transported to New Hanover County Jail, where he was held on no bond plus $1,000,000 for the on-view charges.
