Wrightsville Beach Elementary celebrates Blue Ribbon Award

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Students and staff at Wrightsville Beach Elementary were celebrating today and for good reason. The school is one of only 330 schools from across the country to be named a Blue Ribbon School for 2016.

Principal Jackson Norvell said he thinks the school’s marine academy is what really set them apart. The school was part of less than half of a percent of schools in the country given the honor of the Blue Ribbon.

Today he said he is glad to celebrate the achievement with the kids who helped make the school so great.

“I think it’s significant in that they can always look at that award and that’ll be hanging for years and say they were part of that. But also they’re part of that meaning they need to carry on that legacy in what they do in the future. And they look back with great pride and continue to support the school long after they leave,” Norvell said.

Last week Norvell traveled to Washington DC for a conference with other Blue Ribbon recipients. He said it was great to see what other successful schools are doing around the country for the betterment of the students.
