Wrightsville Beach historic cottage moved to Wilmington
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Wrightsville Beach shared in a social media post that the historic Williams–Bordeaux Cottage has been moved.
The cottage was originally built in 1917 and sat at the southwest corner of Augusta Street and North Lumina Avenue.
In 1922, the property was bought by Lillian McConnell Williams. In 1947, Williams sold the home to her niece Elizabeth Dock Bordeaux and her husband William P. Bordeaux. Their daughter inherited the cottage after her mother died in 1997 and remained in the family for more than 77 years.
The town says the Williams–Bordeaux Cottage remarkably survived two major historic events: the devastating fire of 1934 that destroyed more than 125 nearby structures, and Hurricane Hazel in 1954, which caused widespread damage along the coast.
The cottage was moved on Wednesday to Wilmington, but a specific location was not mentioned.
