Wrightsville Beach issues violation notice to Commodore Club over public access dispute
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH (WWAY) — A private social club and restaurant at Wrightsville Beach is making waves with some town leaders.
The Commodore Club is located at 6 Marina Street at Wrightsville Beach Marina, and the annual membership fee is more than $32,000.
When it was pitched to the town in 2020, the developers said the second floor would be a “members only” private lounge, and that the first-floor restaurant would be open to the public.
However, it costs non-members $100 per person to make a reservation.
Some Wrightsville Beach town leaders are upset with the fee, claiming it was not part of the special use permit voted on six years ago, which required “public access” to the first floor.
A statement sent by the Town of Wrightsville Beach stated the Town has issued a notice of violation to the Commodore Club.
The Commodore Club has filed an appeal of staff’s interpretation to the Board of Adjustment.
Since this is an ongoing legal matter, the Town says it’s unable to provide additional details or comment further at this time.
