Wrightsville Beach man leads charge to allow dogs on the beach during busy season
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C. (WWAY) — Dog owners may soon be able to walk their pets on Wrightsville Beach if a new ordinance is passed.
Douglas Wilson of Wrightsville Beach, has been frustrated in the past due to not being allowed to walk his English Springer Spaniel on the sand from April 1 to September 30.
This led him to create a petition to change the rules, of when and where dogs are permitted.
If passed, dogs would be allowed in certain areas during the tourist season in the morning hours.
The ordinance is expected to be voted on tomorrow, March 12, 2026, at the Wrightsville Beach Board of Alderman meeting.
