WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — This year marks seven decades since the strongest hurricane to strike the Cape Fear made landfall.

The Wrightsville Beach Museum is conducting the first academic study of WB’s Historic Nightlife Institutions from the years following Hurricane Hazel in 1954.

In the wake of Hurricane Hazel, Wrightsville Beach was in some ways reborn as some of the restaurants and bars that would become institutions were founded creating what would come to be known as “The Barmuda Triangle.”

The goal of the project is to gather oral histories and images that can eventually be compiled into a multimodal exhibit and coffee table book.

The museum is primarily looking for people who people who went to the Wrightsville Bars from 1955 through 1990 or have information that could help with the project.
