Wrightsville Beach Police Department responds to incident in the Bar District

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Wrightsville Beach Police officers responded to a disturbance involving a fight in the bar district around 2am on Monday.

According to a news release, officers detained Tyrice Murphy on N. Lumina Avenue for fighting.

Police said that during the handcuffing process, Murphy pulled away and stumbled into the path of a slow-moving vehicle. However, investigators determined he was not struck by the vehicle and declined medical attention.

Murphy was cited and released without further incident.

According to police, a review of body camera footage confirmed the escalation was caused by Murphy’s actions, and officers followed proper protocols.
