WATCH: WWAY Hurricane Special looks back at Bertha & Fran, ahead to this season
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — There have already been two named storms in the Atlantic this year. As Hurricane Season officially starts, does that mean it could be an active summer and fall?
It’s one of many topics the WWAY StormTrack 3 Weather Team explores in its 2016 Hurricane Special, which coincides with the first official day of Hurricane Season.

If this is an active season, it won’t be the first to impact southeastern North Carolina. Twenty years ago, the Cape Fear coast took a double punch, when Hurricane Bertha made landfall in the area in July and Hurricane Fran followed a couple months later. We’ll look back at the damage left behind by those storms. We’ll also look at how things have changed since as far as the technology we now have available to predict and track storms and help keep you and your family safe.
