WWAY Student Athlete of the Week: Iveonna “NeNe” Ward

ELIZABETHTOWN, N.C. (WWAY) – The WWAY Student Athlete of the Week is Iveonna “NeNe” Ward from East Bladen High School.

The senior striker is a key player for the Eagles, who are one of the top teams in Class 1A. Ward says the entire team is close on the pitch.

However, her best sport might actually be basketball. Her efforts helped East Bladen reach the state title game in March.

Ward will play college basketball while pursuing a degree in nursing.

In the time she has left, Ward says she’s trying to leave an impact on her teams, school and community.

“I just go out there, no matter what sport it is,” Ward said. “Go out there, playing as hard as I can, the best I can. Help lead by example. Show good sportsmanship. Lead by example, be a good leader. Just leave it all on whatever sport it is.”
