WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) – The WWAY Student Athlete of the Week is Jackson Noon from Laney High School.

Number one for the Buccaneers’ baseball team just might be on top of a few other categories as well.

The junior second baseman is hitting over .400 this season and has a 4.425 GPA. Noon is also involved in the STEM and Beta clubs.

As for his Laney baseball club, Laney is on pace to surpass their ten win season from a year ago. Noon attributes that to better leadership and chemistry in 2025.

Balancing athletics and academics can be difficult, but he has managed to find success both on the diamond and in the classroom.

“It’s rough balancing it out, but you just got to push through,” Noon said. “I got a 4.4 GPA. It’s a lot of schoolwork, but I just got to keep up with it. On the other side, I just got to keep grinding. Keep playing baseball. We’re doing great this year at conference. We’re doing really good. We’re hitting the ball well. Our pitchers are picking it up. We’re all playing well.”

Noon still has a year left representing the Bucs, but has a some career fields in mind such as engineering and real estate.
