WWAY Student Athlete of the Week: Sarah Brannin

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) – The WWAY Student Athlete of the Week is Sarah Brannin from Ashley High School.

Brannin is a member of the girls soccer team, who are set to play in their third consecutive state title game. That will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday in Matthews against Ardrey Kell, the same school that knocked Ashley out of the finals in 2023.

The junior defender has been a part of all three squads that reached the Class 4A championship, but insists it is not an easy thing to do.

“The goal is always to win every time you step onto that field,” Brannin said. “With that type of mentality, losing just isn’t in the question. We know what it takes to win. Our coaches work hard. Our teammates work hard. Our trainers work hard to all put us in a position for success and I think that that’s an element. That family aspect that not every program has. I think that’s why it’s made it seem so effortless for us.”
