YMCA gearing up for weekend triathlon with traffic notice

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – The Wilmington Family YMCA Triathlon gets started bright and early Saturday morning.

As a reminder, the race is an open route, meaning the roads will be open to drivers while the bike portion of the race is underway, however, there will be some lane closures.

The right-hand eastbound lane beginning at 5808 Oleander Drive will begin to taper off. The right eastbound lane will close at Pfeifer Avenue and all traffic will move into the inside eastbound lane.

Then at Bagley Road, all eastbound traffic will move into the center lane and travel there until reaching Greenville Avenue.  At that point, all eastbound traffic will be directed to take a left onto Greenville Avenue.  Traffic will be detoured down Greenville Avenue and then be advised to take a right onto Wrightsville Avenue to get back to Oleander.

Westbound Oleander remains in a normal traffic pattern throughout the event.   However, the center lane will be coned off to accommodate the eastbound closure from westbound Greenville Avenue to Pfeifer Avenue, prohibiting left turns in that short section of road.

Cyclists are expected to be on the route between 7:15 a.m. and 10:15 a.m.
