YMCA keeping COVID cases low across North Carolina
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Since reopening in September after being shut down for six months due to the pandemic, YMCA’s across the state have been one of the most successful organizations at keeping their COVID rates low.
Over one million people have visited at YMCA location in North Carolina over the past few months, with just over 50 positive cases reported.
The organization attributes their low numbers to following strict protocol, which includes taking everyone’s temperature at the door and wiping down all equipment in between groups.
Sarah Gibbs and Shannon Berg with the local YMCA say the success of the organization has been a group effort.
“YMCA’s across the state of North Carolina have really come together to collaborate and discuss best practices,” Gibbs said. “How can we keep our community safe, and how can we continue to serve the community despite all the closures and things that were going on?”
“We clean between every segment,” Berg added. “That really helps to make sure that one group that leaves and another group that comes in, that we’re cleaning.”
The NIR Family YMCA in Wilmington says they will continue to go above and beyond to keep their members and staff safe.
