"All I see is my son getting drugged, and girls pulling his hair. One boy punches him. He goes to his knees, and then all 15 kids stomp on his head."

Beatdown

NEW HANOVER COUNTY (WWAY)–The Wilmington Police Department is investigating a fight that left one person with severe injuries. Now, the parent is speaking out — wanting justice for what happened to her son.

A Video contributed by viewers shows the moment chaos erupts on Water Street in Downtown Wilmington on Saturday.

“You almost killed my son by calling 15 boys- or whatever, of this gang, ‘M.O.B,’ to stomp his head in,” exclaimed mother Carla Ridgway.

The moment that haunts Ridgway and her daughter.

Ridgway says when she saw the video of her son getting jumped. She instantly cried.

“I couldn’t even finish it. Because at this point, all I see is my son getting drugged, and girls pulling his hair. One boy punches him. He goes to his knees, and then all 15 kids stomp on his head,” Ridgway explained.

Ridgway says her son, 16-year-old Kalim Moore, was jumped by a large group of teenagers. This is his face now– swollen eyes and face. Ridgway says Moore has a severe concussion, a laceration in his mouth, and had dreadlocks ripped out.

“He was knocked unconscious- bleeding from the mouth. Because he has a concussion, and it’s so severe, he cannot use his phone or a computer screen no longer than an hour. He can’t go to work. He has a full-time job. He’s not a bad kid,” Ridgway said.

Ridgway believes the fight may have stemmed from a mutual friendship tied to a former relationship. While she doesn’t know the full story, the issue has spilled into her home. She’s also aware of allegations that her son was a bully.

“That’s not my child. They went and pulled old footage from what he did and put it on mine to make it seem like it’s my son and my son is the bully. That child is not my child. I don’t know what to tell people, but that child is,” Ridgway said.

She has contacted the Wilmington Police Department about the incident. WPD says they are investigating but can’t comment because all the teens involved are minors. However, for those who did step in to help her son-

“Thank you! You saved my baby. If it wasn’t for you and the two other guys who jumped the gate, my son wouldn’t be here,” Ridgway said.

Ridgway says she has gone to great lengths to protect her children. Since this incident, she says other parents have messaged her on social media, saying their children were attacked by the same group of teenagers.
