Brunswick Co. Commission District 4 candidates discuss issues

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The election is one week away. We want to make sure you are as informed as possible, so we spoke to a couple of the Brunswick County Commission candidates about their campaigns.

Republican Mike Forte and Democrat Brenda Faye McMillian are vying for the District 4 spot on the Board of Commissioners. Both say they want help bring more jobs to the county.

Forte, who served one term as a Boiling Spring Lakes commissioner, also said he wants to fight for education.

“Whether it’s manufacturing, industry or warehouse, we need, we got to do something,” Forte said. “We need jobs. I don’t think anybody should be denied a college education simply because of money.”

McMillian said she wants to be a voice for seniors.

“My main motivation for running was related to senior citizens. Having worked with them in a professional capacity (as a social worker) for more than 20 years, I knew there was a disconnect in what was needed for them and what’s available,” McMillian said.

Election day is November 8. Early voting ends Saturday.
