video Tuesday night’s sports segment featured high school baseball state playoff action between two area teams. Whiteville hosted North Brunswick to see who would advance to the East 2A finals. We also showcased the West Brunswick baseball state 3A playoff game from Shallotte and the Ashley's 4A state baseball playoff game against Richmond County.

State champs for Wilmington soccer squad

A local boys soccer team made history this weekend by becoming the first team from Wilmington to capture the US Youth Soccer NC State Cup.

video Friday night’s sports segment featured high school baseball state playoff action from West Brunswick. We also checked out the North Brunswick baseball team against North Pitt. We traveled to Ashley to watch the softball team defeat West Johnston 4-2 for the district title. The Hoggard girls soccer team was also in action tonight as they hosted Pinecrest.

video On Thursday night we featured a rain-shortened baseball game between UNCW and George Mason. We also talked to UNCW A.D Jimmy Bass about the recent trend of schools leaving the CAA. In golf the UNCW men's golf team is tied for fifth place after one round of their NCAA Golf Regional. Plus, we featured state playoff softball action on Thursday that pitted South Columbus and South Lenoir.

East-West all-star rosters set in basketball & football

West Bladen's DJ Mason & Hoggard's Tyler Thayer will represent the east in the annual East-West All-Star Basketball Game in July. Thayer and Mason both played for the Wilmington based Flight 22 basketball team last summer.

Wilmington's Cari Blalock qualifies for U.S. Olympic Trials

Former New Hanover swimming standout Cari Blalock is headed to the US Olympic Trials. The Wilmington resident recently qualified in four different events. This will not be the first time for the UNC Tar Heel swimmer at the US Olympic Trials. She also competed in 2008, but Blalock only qualified in one event that year.

Barth signs four year deal with Bucs

It took longer than Connor Barth wanted or expected, but the former Hoggard High School kicker is now one of the highest paid kickers in the NFL. Barth signed a four year contract on Thursday with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Old Dominion leaving CAA for Conference USA

Old Dominion is leaving the Colonial Athletic Association and joining Conference USA. School President John R. Broderick said in a release Thursday that the move will be effective July 1, 2013.
