Former Hoggard Viking offensive lineman Jonathan Cooper missed his entire rookie season with the Arizona Cardinals after breaking his leg in a preseason game last August. Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians earlier this week said Cooper needs to shake off the rust. Cooper even admitted his level of play is not where it needs to be. The Wilmington Waves 7th grade basketball team captured a national title for travel basketbal in Myrtle Beach. Hoggard football coach Scott Braswell is back in Wilmington. The 2014 baseball season is now over for the Wilmington Sharks. The playoffs will start on Wednesday, but the Sharks won't be included. Full story...

The Richmond Kickers came into Friday's USL Pro soccer game at Legion Stadium as the second place team in the league. The Wilmington Hammerheads managed to tie the Kickers in two earlier meetings this season, but unfortunately the Wilmington Hammerheads came up short on Friday night. Plus more! Full story...

Friday marked the first day high school football teams are permitted to hit the practice field for the upcoming season. Most squads waited for the sun to come up, but that was not the case at Laney. The Buccaneers waited for the clock to strike midnight. Our report from Buctown includes standout Tariq Lane. The senior has decided to attend Laney after contemplating a move to Charlotte. Clearly this was one of the best nights to be at the Shark Tank all year. UNCW basketball coach Kevin Keatts threw out the first pitch. The Florence head coach got tossed out of the game after throwing a slew of bats onto the field. Michael Montville hit a homer for the second night in a row. Jon Olczak was terrific on the mound. We stopped by practice on Tuesday afternoon at Buck Hardee Field in order to get a state of the season update on the Wilmington Sharks. The attempt to win three state championships in a row in American Legion baseball is now over for Wilmington Post 10. Scott Sandlin's squad lost on Monday night in Lexington at the state tournament. It wasn't a season ender, but the Wilmington Sharks also lost on Monday. Full story...

Joe Miller and Jack Holley will be inducted into the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame. Holley is a New Hanover graduate. He coached several high school football teams in our area. Holley died in 2013. Joe Miller passed away earlier this year. Miller was the head football coach of the New Hanover Wildcats for 20 years.
