The Topsail High School baseball team lost 6-2 on Friday to South Stanly in game one of a best of 3 series for the 1-A state title. On Saturday South Stanly won 7-2 to claim the state championship.

A New Hanover County middle school boys lacrosse team had quite a season. The Roland-Grise lacrosse team won the county championship for the third year in a row.

Saturday was the second annual event for Smiles for Sarah, a volleyball tournament and fundraiser in honor of 12-year-old Sarah Mairs.
Sarah was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis at a young age.

Things didn’t go as planned Saturday night at Legion Stadium. The Hammerheads lost 3-1 and Miss USA had a bad allergy infection, which is not conducive to singing the National Anthem.
