Can this year's UNCW women's basketball team be the first to win the CAA Tournament?

video The UNCW women's basketball team has a chance to make history this weekend. They'll be attempting to win the CAA Tournament title. If they accomplish that it would the first for the women's basketball program. Don't count out the Seahawks with Cynthia Cooper-Dyke doing everything but driving the bus.

Sheila Boles named CAA Legend

Former UNCW women's basketball guard Sheila Boles will be inducted into the Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame in May. Before that she's going to be a CAA Legend. Boles will receive that honor on Wednesday night at the CAA Women's Basketball Championship in Maryland.

Pairings announced for 58th annual ACC Tournament

North Carolina is the No. 1 seed in the upcoming 2011 Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament, which gets underway Thursday, March 10, at the Greensboro (N.C.) Coliseum. The 13th-ranked Tar Heels clinched their 18th outright ACC regular-season title - their 28th overall - with Saturday’s 81-67 win over fourth-ranked Duke. In addition to top-seeded North Carolina, Duke (No. 2), Florida State (No. 3) and Clemson (No. 4) all earned first-round byes from Thursday’s opening-round session.

Pender boys, East Bladen girls advance to the state finals; New Hanover boys fall short

Next Saturday will be state championship weekend for high school basketball. Pender and East Bladen both earned invitations today in Fayetteville.

Region X Champs !! Cape Fear Community College is headed back to Kansas for national basketball tournament

Cape Fear CC earned an invitation to the national junior college basketball tournament in 2009. After a one year hiatus, they're coming back... and looking to make more than a splash.

Tar Heels earn ACC basketball crown

Other than diehard UNC fans not many people predicted North Carolina as the regular season champion of the ACC this season. It's true though. The Heels beat Duke in the regular season finale to earn the top seed in next week's ACC Tournament.

West Bladen gets nipped by Northwood

video The West Bladen Knights held the lead all the way through the middle of the fourth quarter. Northwood emerged the winner though to advance to the 2-A East Finals in Fayetteville on Saturday.

UNCW ends season with loss at CAA Tournament

video Georgia State played like a team with nothing to lose. The 8th seed in the CAA Men's Basketball Tournament knocked out UNCW, the 9th seed on Friday afternoon in Richmond, Virginia by six points. This marks the third year in a row UNCW has lost in the first round of the tournament. It was UNCW's worst shooting performance of the season.

Can the "Buzz Factor" work magic for UNCW at this weekend's CAA Tournament?

video The UNC Wilmington men's basketball team will open play in the CAA Tournament on Friday at noon against Georgia State. In order to make the NCAA Tournament UNCW will need to pull off four wins in a row over a four day stretch. Stranger things have happened. Update: UNCW's Chad Tomko named 2nd Team All-CAA.
