19th century original ‘Pierce & Co.’ building burns down

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The original ‘Pierce & Co.’ store at the corner of Pierce Cemetery and Redbug Road burnt down over the weekend.

The store was located about 1.3 miles from the company’s current location, which recently celebrated 125 years of service to the community.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but the building was completely destroyed, along with a lot of old artifacts and tools inside.

The Hallsboro Fire Department fought the fire early Saturday morning.

The store emphasized their current location is open and was unaffected by the fire down the road.
