Early voting sees large turnout

All of the signs point to a big turnout for tomorrow’s primary here in North Carolina. The state Board of Elections says that by the time early voting ended Saturday more than 488,000 North Carolinians voted early or mailed in an absentee ballot.

USS North Carolina commissioned

videoShe is now officially the USS North Carolina. A crowd laden with veterans looked on as the flags that had flown that morning on the Battleship North Carolina were hoisted aboard the sub. Amidst extremely heavy security, the Secretary of the Navy was here to give the command that made it all official.

Pender County Relay for Life

Almost two weeks ago, six year old Emily Hollis lost her battle with cancer. Saturday, dozens of children celebrated Emily’s life, while raising cancer awareness at the pender county relay for life.

Commissioning parking runs smoothly

The crowds at Saturday’s commissioning of the USS North Carolina submarine led to congestion on the roads. More than six thousand attendees parked at various locations and used a shuttle service to and from the ceremony.

Wave Transit plans for new facility

Wave Transit has received millions of dollars for a new facility. It will serve as a transfer station for passengers and house administrative offices, but some passengers said they would rather see the money used elsewhere.
