Public meeting will consider hydrilla infestation at Lake Waccamaw State Park

Hydrilla is a submerged aquatic plant that can create nearly impenetrable mats of stems and leaves on a lake’s surface. An invasive species from central Africa, hydrilla impedes recreational use of waterways, crowds out native vegetation and can ultimately harm fish and other aquatic species. Its spread is often attributed to boats that are trailered from one lake to another.

NCDOT awards nearly $4 million contract to preserve Thomas Rhodes Bridge

The Department of Transportation has awarded a contract to preserve the Thomas Rhodes Bridge, which carries U.S. 421 over the Cape Fear River in New Hanover County. The project will entail major preservation work including hydro-demolition of the bridge deck and the placement of a latex modified overlay, replacement of expansion joints, cleaning and painting of the structural steel and various structural concrete repairs.

City Council approves building plans

Wilmington City Council addressed two zoning issues, one to change an area of Greenville Loop road for a 14 unit single family development and another on Lake Avenue for a low density multi-family development. Council voted unanimously to approve both changes.

Three months after the brutal assault of driver Charles Hawkesworth caught on camera, Marine Gunnery Sgt. John Adam Kinosh was back in court today asking a judge to help him seek help.

Marine charged after Morehead City hotel evacuated

A Camp Lejeune Marine has been arrested after a hotel in Morehead City was evacuated for about five hours.

Morehead City police and fire officials evacuated the hotel and two nearby restaurants Monday morning after getting a report that someone had threatened to commit suicide using chlorine.
