Hoggard head basketball coach Brett Queen gave us a quick preview of the upcoming Leon Brogden Holiday Basketball Tournament. Plus we previewed Tuesday’s NBA action that will be shown on WWAY.

Nesbitt re-elected NC Senate minority leader

North Carolina state Senate Democrats will keep their same top leaders for the next two years.

The incoming Senate Democratic Caucus re-elected Sen. Martin Nesbitt of Asheville as minority leader and Sen. Josh Stein of Raleigh as minority whip.

Grandfather Mountain sets record gust of 120 mph

Last week’s storm included a record wind gust for Grandfather Mountain.

Officials at the mountain say the wind gusted to 120.7 mph for three seconds last Friday. That broke the record three-second gust of 114.7 mph set on Jan. 26, 2011.

WWAY’s Sunday night sports – Dec. 23

videoThe Carolina Panthers keep racking up victories late in the season, but it’s too little too late for a run at the playoffs. In the 2012 home finale the Panthers held off the Oakland Raiders in a penalty-filled game. It’s the fourth win for Carolina in their last five games. The UNCW men’s basketball team is in the holiday spirit. Check out the Seahawk singers!
