UPDATE: 1 killed, 2 injured in Bladenboro shooting, suspect in custody
BLADENBORO, NC (WWAY) — A woman was shot to death and her boyfriend is in the hospital after a shooting Wednesday, according to the Bladen County Coroner.
Bladenboro Police Chief Chris Hunt said Henry Bernard Spivey Jr., is charged with murder.
Bladen County Coroner Hubert Kinlaw said Deanna McGirt, 30, and her boyfriend who live in Dublin, went to a friend’s house in Bladenboro Wednesday afternoon. Kinlaw said at some point, a fourth person came over. He said McGirt’s boyfriend got into an argument with that person over a bill for a car repair. Kinlaw said the fourth person then left.
Kinlaw said the fourth person came back sometime later. He said McGirt was sitting on the steps outside when the person started shooting. He said she was shot to death and the other two people were also injured.
Kinlaw said McGirt was pronounced dead at the hospital. He said McGirt’s boyfriend was transferred to the hospital in Chapel Hill. Kinlaw said her boyfriend was shot in the face multiple times. He said the person that owned the house was shot in the hand and was released from the hospital Wednesday.
Hunt said Spivey is also charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill and shooting into an occupied dwelling.
The shooting caused two schools in Bladen County to go on a temporary lockdown.
