Are you in need of food for your animals?
CASTLE HAYNE, NC (WWAY) –The Eastern North Carolina Emergency Equine Assistance is giving away free dog food, cat food, livestock and hay for any family in need.
“I contacted Red Cross and FEMA to see what we could do for the animals and everyone just said good luck,” said Coordinator Jennifer Witkowski. “So, we realized very quickly that, although there were food banks for people, there would be nothing for animals. So, the day after the hurricane, when the wind and water stopped, I just started getting on the phone seeing who could donate and who could do what for us.”
Thus far, they have served over 500 families but, Witkowski says they need more help to keep this center operating for her goal of four months. They need financial support and direct donations.
The distribution center is located at 4101 Blue Clay Road in Castle Hayne in the Old Burton Steel Mill building on Mondays and Thursdays from 5 PM to 9 PM and Saturdays from 9 AM to 9 PM.
