27th annual TreeFest held at Independence Mall
WILMIGNTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington’s 27th annual TreeFest giveaway is being held Friday and Saturday.
The event held at Independence Mall gives households the chance to select up to five trees or grasses to plant in their yard.
The plants are free, but a $5.00 donation is encouraged to go towards next year’s trees.
In the event’s 27-year history, a quarter of a million trees have been given away.
UNCW environmental science professor Amy Long says the turnout this year has been excellent.
“I’ve been working the line of customers this morning, chatting with people, and I have met more first-time eventgoers than I ever have,” Long said.
If you want to donate to TreeFest but weren’t able to attend, you can just send a check to the City of Wilmington and put “TreeFest” in the memo line.
Be sure to grab your own tree or grass at the JCPenney wing of Independence Mall between 11 am and 4 pm Saturday
