Men accused of stealing appliances from construction sites


NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) – A six month investigation ends in the arrest of two men accused of stealing appliances from homes under construction.

The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office says the larcenies began back in August.  Detectives received more than 40 reports of larceny from new construction homes from 5 different construction companies.

Detectives tracked down two suspects, Elvis Abraham Romero and Jose Guillermo Leiva-Galvan.  They’ve both been arrested on over 100 breaking and entering charges.

Investigators have recovered more than $10,000.00 in stolen appliances.

Both men are in the New Hanover County Detention Facility.  Leiva-Galvan is in jail under a $361,000 bond, Romero is being held under no bond.

Detectives say this is an ongoing investigation and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
