Correctional officer arrested for bringing synthetic cannabinoid to prison


COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) —  A correctional officer was arrested this weekend after deputies say he brought synthetic cannabinoid into the prison in Whiteville.

A spokeswoman from the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office said 26-year William Katrell Jacobs was arrested yesterday after one of his superiors witnessed Jacobs selling synthetic cannabinoid to an inmate.

Jacobs is charged with maintaining a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell synthetic cannabinoid, delivering synthetic cannabinoid, and possession of a controlled substance at a prison/ jail.

The spokeswoman said deputies found a weapon in Jacobs’ car when they searched it. He is also charged with a misdemeanor possession of a weapon on state property.

Jacobs bonded out of jail Saturday.
