Humpday Health: Essential Oils


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Did you know that oils can help with stress, energy levels, and even weight loss? In today’s world holistic health solutions are a big draw for a lot of people and essential oils are one way to naturally improve how you feel.

Sandie Orsa is a wellness advocate for doTERRA, she said their oils are extracted from indigenous plants all over the world.

“Lavender comes from France, the lemon and a lot of the citrus oils comes from Italy, peppermint comes from here in the United States, in Washington State, which is really nice,” Orsa said.

She adds there are several ways to use essential oils.

“You can use them aromatically whether you put them in a diffuser or you can place them on your hands and just inhale from your palms,” Orsa said.

You can also use them on your skin.

“So for instance lavender, if you have a cut or a bruise or a scrape or even a minor burn you can place lavender directly on the irritated skin,” Orsa said.

There are even certain oils, like lemon, that you can put in water.

“If you’re going to add essential oils to your water, drink it out of a glass bottle because they’re that powerful that they can start to deteriorate the inside of plastic,” Orsa said.

She said the oils can help with anything from stress relief to weight loss.

“Personally for me wild orange helps to soothe, helps me to de-stress, but it also helps uplift me as well. So it helps to kinda wake me up and that 3:00 hour, instead of grabbing a cup of coffee, I’ll grab some peppermint and some wild orange, put a couple of drops on my palms and then inhale like this,” Orsa said.

She said the oils can be used at any age from kids to adults. and they can really make a positive impact on your health and wellness.
