3,500+ unit housing development approved by Brunswick County Planning Board
BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — In a 4-1 vote, the Brunswick County Planning Board approved a more than 3,500-unit development called Midway Tract.
Norris and Tunstall Engineering requested approval for the project.
It will have 2,950 single-family lots, along with 330 townhome lots, 336 multi-family units, and 26 acres for commercial use.
Planning board staff said that 5% of the units will be for workforce housing.
The project will be on more than 1,500 acres of land along NC 211, near Midway Road.
Carla White lives less than a mile from where Midway Tract will be located.
She said her biggest concern is the potential impact to traffic.
“I am very disheartened by the approval of this, especially that it’s so massive and especially since there is only secondary, small rural roads that will be connecting this development and the traffic issues that we already have,” White said.
Terri Holley also lives close to the project’s location.
She said the county can’t handle it’s continued growth.
“We have too many places that are vacant now, that we just don’t need anymore,” Holley said. “No more building. I don’t mind growth but we don’t have the infrastructure here for it and I think there should be a moratorium on building here for the next 5 years, my honest opinion.”
WWAY asked a representative of the engineering company for comment but they declined.
At this time, it’s not exactly clear as to when construction will begin.
