77th Queen Azalea makes her way around the Cape Fear on Thursday
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Sharon Lawrence was very busy on her first full day as this year’s Queen Azalea.
She began her Thursday with a visit to Rocky Point Elementary School before making her way to the Cape Fear Country Club in Wilmington for a celebrity reception.
“To see the community that this organization serves is such a privilege because, what I am getting to see as the queen, in the 77th year, is how invested this festival is and the other non-profits,” Lawrence said.
After a quick meal and speech at the country club, Lawrence made her way to the Betty H. Cameron Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
She spoke with parents of children who were receiving treatment there, as well as the children themselves. Lawrence said she admires and understands the importance of quality healthcare.
“None of us know when we’ll need the services of a women’s and children’s hospital will provide. So, to be here today really confirms for me what I’ve already known, and it was a really moving visit. Because you see the success, you see the virgility behind it all.”
Queen Azalea wrapped up her Thursday itinerary with a visit to the Brigade Boys and Girls Club.
