Police: Two Iowa men charged after 82 lbs of marijuana found in car trunk
JOHNSON COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) — Two men have been charged after a deputy found more than 82 pounds of marijuana in his car during a traffic stop on November 2.
Deputy Cody O’Hare stopped a car driven by Juan Salcedo, 24, of New York at 9:05 p.m.
During the traffic stop on I-80 near Coralville, Salcedo admitted the vehicle he was driving was rented. He said he planned to drive it back to New York.
During a search by Deputy O’Hare, 82.19 pounds of marijuana was found in the trunk.
There was no drug tax stamp attached to the marijuana.
Salcedo was charged with a Failure to Affix Drug Stamp and a Controlled Substance Violation.
A passenger in the car, 32-year-old Jairo Rodriguez of Bronx, New York, faces charges of controlled substance violation and failure to affix drug stamp. Police say Rodriguez admitted to taking the trip with Salcedo and having personal belongings in the car.
