Spieth’s ‘Gramps’ more than proud after British loss

HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) — Jordan Spieth might have lost the British Open after a nail-biting finish, but one man in Pender County is still celebrating tonight.

Bob Julius, Spieth’s “gramps,” watched the game from his Hampstead home this afternoon with some friends. The win would have brought Spieth one step closer to a Grand Slam. Julius said even though the end was tough to watch, he’s more than just proud of his grandson.

“Oh, I ‘m proud. You can’t even put it in words,” Julius said. “You can’t even put it in words. I’m not worried about any future that’s for sure. He’s proven what he can do. If he never did another one, it would be enough this year for him.”

Spieth won the Masters and US Open earlier this year. Wins in the British Open and PGA Championship would have made him the first golder in the modern era to win all four majors in the same calendar year.
