Churches and organizations across New Hanover County provide free Thanksgiving meals

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — There were no shortage of Thanksgiving meals across New Hanover County on Thursday.

The Wilmington Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance gathered at Hope Baptist Church of All Nations to provide more than 400 meals with multiple churches helping. It’s something Pastor James Jamison Jr. is a fan of.

“Two is better than one and so when we come together we can do a lot. So, we’re going to keep working together,” said Jamison Jr.

One of the churches helping is New Beginnings Christian Church and they are many than happy to do so.

“This is a blessing to be able to serve someone else and that’s how we get our reward, blessing other people,” said Carrie Andrews, a member of the church.

Another place giving out free meals to the public was The Healing Place, which helps those recovering from addictions and provides shelter.

More than 1,100 servings of food were prepared with hundreds showing up in line. Dylan Andrews, Food Service and Dietary Coordinator at The Healing Place, was happy to help.

“To be able to open up for the community is just awesome. It’s great to see the unity and all the magic happen,” Andrews explained.

He’s also thankful on this Thanksgiving to see so many happy people.

“I’m most thankful that I’m able to just help people smile and you know, just make a difference. Leave people with a fully belly before they go to bed tonight,” Andrews said.

The Wilmington Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance says they also serve free food for those who need it every Sunday at Hope Baptist Church of All Nations on 1401 Greenfield Street.
