Mideastern Conference Girls Basketball Tournament Round One results
BRUNSWICK COUNTY (WWAY) — Round One of the Mideastern Conference Girls Tournament kicked off Monday at Brunswick Community College.
The action began with Hoggard(1) taking on North Brunswick(8) with Hoggard proving why they were the #1 seed in the tournament. Hoggard started with the lead and they never gave it back. Sophomore Tristan Shivers lead all scorers with 23 points and 6 assists. Sarah Elgart also chipped in with 15 points as well. The Vikings with a dominate performance as they defeated North Brunswick by a score of 66-6.
The Topsail Pirates(4) took on the Ashley Screaming Eagles(5). Both teams splitting victories with each other during the regular season. The Pirates would go into halftime with an 8 point lead, but this game shaped up to be a tight one come the 4th quarter. Ashley would go on a 6-0 run near the end of the game. They came from behind to win 47-43. Bella Cook lead the Eagles with 16 points scoring, Emerson Clark had 13 for the Pirates.
New Hanover(2) defeated South Brunswick(7) 63-39.
Laney(3) defeated West Brunswick(6) 40-16.
In Round Two on Wednesday, Hoggard(1) will take on Ashley(5) at 6:00PM. New Hanover(2) will take on Laney(3) at 7:30PM
