Panthers make plenty of moves during the first week of NFL free agency

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Carolina Panthers were the NFL’s worst team last season finishing with a 2-15 record, so what are they doing this off-season to get better?

This past week began NFL free agency for all 32 teams, with the Panthers certainly needing as much help as possible. There were certainly some departures, with the Panthers trading defensive end Brian Burns to the New York Giants for a 2024 2nd-round pick and a 2025 5th-rounder.

Carolina also cut several players such as Vonn Bell, Hayden Hurst and Bradley Boseman. However, the Panthers did make quite a few additions, especially along the offensive line with the signing of guards Robert Hunt from the Miami Dolphins and Damien Lewis from the Seattle Seahawks. The Panthers also signed players such as linebacker Josey Jewell, cornerback Dane Jackson,  defensive end DJ Wonnum and others.

In one of the bigger moves, the Panthers traded longtime defensive back Donte Jackson to the Pittsburgh Steelers for wide receiver Diontae Johnson, along with swapping late round draft picks.

The Panthers will look to continue to add to their roster as they host several free agents this coming week.
