UPDATE: Man suspected of killing sister in Hampstead captured

UPDATE (9:00 p.m.:) : Matthew Dolan was located in Chardon, Ohio and has been taken into custody by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office.

Dolan is waiting for extradition back to North Carolina and is no longer a threat to the public.
Sheriff Alan Cutler offered remarks about the arrest.

HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) — The Pender County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man who they believe is connected with the death of his sister.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, they’re looking for Matthew Edward Dolan, 23. They believe Dolan is driving a blue 2017 Jeep Cherokee with N.C. license plate KHC-1563 and may be traveling with one or two dogs, black Labrador Retrievers.

During a news conference Monday afternoon, Sheriff Alan Cutler says the investigation began around 9pm Sunday, after the body of Megan Elizabeth Dolan, 21, was discovered in a home on Master’s Lane in Hampstead while crews were battling a fire at the home.

The Pender County Sheriff’s Office says it has been determined that the victim had been murdered prior to the fire. Arrest warrants have been obtained for Matthew Edward Dolan as the primary suspect.

The Pender County Sheriff’s Office says Dolan is considered armed and dangerous. They’re urging anyone who spots him to avoid approaching him and call 911.
