‘Teacher of the Month’ helps kindergarteners build confidence from day one
ROCKY POINT, NC (WWAY) — Kindergarten is often the first step in a child’s academic journey — and for many at Cape Fear Elementary, that journey starts with Mrs. Britney Rogers.
For more than a decade, Mrs. Rogers has been shaping young minds in her kindergarten classroom, where building blocks, storytime, and early friendships fill the day. This month, her dedication and heartwarming impact earned her the title of WWAY’s Teacher of the Month.
WWAY surprised Rogers in her classroom, where excited kindergartners erupted into cheers after learning of the honor.
“I just love being able to help them be excited to come to school every day,” Rogers said. “To love learning, have fun, and be with their friends. It’s the best—it really is.”
A grandmother who nominated Rogers credited her with helping her grandson gain confidence during those first uncertain days of school. That kind of transformation is something Rogers says she witnesses all year long.
“Watching them turn into full-fledged students and grow so much—it’s really magical,” she said.
Rogers added that no two days in kindergarten are ever the same, and she cherishes the close-knit classroom family that forms each year.
“They each bring something to the table,” she said. “I get super emotional at the end of the school year because we’ve become such a close family.”
In the eyes of her students, the award comes as no surprise.
“She’s the best teacher in the world,” one student said. “In the whole entire universe!” another added.
The WWAY Teacher of the Month award is presented in partnership with Fulford Heating and Cooling and Beach Bagels and Subs. The honoree receives a $400 prize.
