Another cluster reported at UNCW residence hall

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — UNCW has identified another cluster of five COVID-19 cases at a residence hall. This time at Belk Hall, according to the university.

A “cluster” is defined by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services as five or more cases that are deemed in close proximity by location and that occur within a 14-day period.

The people involved in this cluster are isolating and receiving medical monitoring and/or treatment as needed.

The university has informed the New Hanover County Health Department, and contact tracing has been initiated with direct communication to anyone determined to have been in close contact with a positive individual.

UNCW has recently identified four other clusters in residence halls including at CornerstonePelican, Graham-Hewlett, and Sandpiper halls.

The UNCW Student Health Center is now offering free COVID-19 tests to students.
