State Auditor releases report on NC Office of Recovery and Resiliency

RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — The State Auditor has released its report evaluating the administration of the Office of Recovery and Resiliency’s Homeowner Recovery Program, which began after Hurricane Florence in 2018.
Auditor Dave Boliek released a statement, saying, “The response from North Carolina to Hurricanes Matthew and Florence was a disaster.”
The audit claims the Office of Recovery and Resiliency managed more than $1 billion dollars in federal and state disaster recovery funds, but mismanaged things so much that they ended up with a $297 million budget shortfall.
As of April, the housing program got more than 11,000 applications but only completed about 3500 projects.
Boliek says applicants had to go through eight steps to complete the application process and each step took about a hundred days on average.
The report goes on to says due to the Office of Recovery and Resiliency’s efforts some families spent 1,400 days in temporary housing.
