Santa offers holiday cheer and naughty-or-nice advice on WWAY

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — With Christmas just days away, Santa Claus says preparations at the North Pole are in full swing.

Santa joined WWAY live Tuesday morning, one day before Christmas Eve, to share how final preparations are going ahead of his annual journey.

“Everybody is scrambling,” Santa said. “They’re trying frantically to get everything packed in, getting all those gifts in the sleighs. Kinda like Tetris, you gotta get it all fitted in just perfect.”

Santa said there is little time for rest as Christmas approaches.

“This is nothing but work,” he said. “It’s solid from here on out.”

The reindeer, Santa added, are also preparing for the big night. He said they are being “fed and fattened up,” and that weather conditions appear favorable for Christmas Eve travel.

“It looks like the weather is gonna cooperate,” Santa said.

As for the many cookies and glasses of milk waiting along the route, Santa said moderation is key.

“I’m under a doctor’s care,” he said, adding that he does have a preference. “Santa’s a little partial to snickerdoodles.”

Santa also offered advice for children who may be unsure of their standing on the naughty or nice list.

“If you need to make adjustments, it’s time,” he said. “We’ll check that list again at least twice.”

Asked what he enjoys most about the season, Santa said it comes after the work is finished.

“Sitting back and looking over all of the excitement and the joy and the build up to the season,” he said. “I’m ready for it to happen and ready for it to be done.”

Before wrapping up, Santa took a lighthearted look at the naughty and nice list for several WWAY team members, ultimately wishing everyone a Merry Christmas as he prepared to return to the North Pole.
