After the death of Seth Condrey, family members prepare the next steps in honoring him

SHALLOTTE, NC (WWAY)– “I remember telling him how proud I was of him. I said, ‘I loved him,” and he said, ‘I love you too.”

Those were some of the last words 21-year-old Seth Condrey said to his cousin, Donita McBride, before tragedy struck.

It’s all quiet at the home of Michelle Winn, Aunt of Seth Condrey, as the family mourns the loss of their beloved family member.

“He was full of love and always smiling. He never had a negative bone. He always tried to help people. He had a heart of gold”, said Winn.

On December 22, Condrey’s family says he opened up his home to 31-year-old Joshua Cull Crook, who was in need of a place to stay. Later that night, Brunswick County Sherrif’s Office said Crook was arrested and charged with shooting and killing Condrey inside of his home in Shallotte on Jay Street.

With the new year coming, and the unfortunate situation of Condrey leaving behind a baby named Baxley, and wife Genevive, Winn is determined to help them out by setting up a GoFundMe.

“I am raising funds to help Genevieve for the days ahead, like the services and the financial. Seth was the main provider for the family. She does work, but she is going to be out for some time. Unfortunately, the bills and responsibility do not end, even after something tragic like this”, said Winn.

With an outpour of friends, family, and community remembering Condrey, Winn is hoping to see everyone on New Year’s Eve to celebrate not only the coming year, but the life of Condrey at White Funeral and Cremation Service in Shallotte.

“Seth’s favorite colors was orange and green, so we are asking if you want to, you can wear that in memoir of him”, said Winn.

Christian Babson, cousin of Condrey, says they were like more like brothers. After the death of Condrey, Babson vows to take care of not only Condrey’s wife, but also his baby. Babson says as the baby gets older, there is one thing he will always tell her.

“She had an amazing dad, there wasn’t one thing bad about him”, said Babson.

Winn appreciates all the love and support but also wants the community to show up and help deserve justice.

“We are asking that on January 8th, there is a court hearing for probable cause, we ask for the community, family, and friends to attend that court hearing, as we do need justice for Seth”, said Winn.

The family will appreciate any love and support here.
