WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Consulate General of Ireland in Atlanta is recognizing the Wilmington St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee as it prepares to host the 25th annual Downtown Wilmington St. Patrick’s Day Parade next month, according to a news release.

The parade is scheduled for March 14 in historic downtown Wilmington.

Frank Groome, Ireland’s consul general for the U.S. Southeast, congratulated organizers for reaching the milestone year and praised the dedication of Wilmington’s Irish-American community and support from local government.

Groome said the parade has become a key annual Irish heritage event in the Southeast, highlighting the “strength, vibrancy and talent” of the Irish diaspora in Wilmington while welcoming residents from across the city’s diverse communities.

He also noted the celebration helps reinforce ties between Ireland and the United States and provides an economic boost to the area.

The Wilmington St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee also produces the annual Cape Fear Hooley, featuring live Irish music and dancers, in addition to the parade.
