A reel good time as Belville Riverwalk Park holds Senior Fishing Day

BELVILLE, NC (WWAY) — The nice weather on Tuesday was perfect for some seniors to try their hand at fishing.

Residents from Brunswick Cove Living Center took part in Senior Fishing Day at the Belville Riverwalk on Tuesday.

For many of them, it was the first time they had ever been fishing.

Workers with Belville Parks and Recreation were there to set up fishing poles for those who needed help.

Donald Haddock was one of the seniors taking part and has been a lifelong fisherman.

He said it was great for everyone to spend some time outside, while he got to enjoy one of his favorite hobbies.

“It’s good for them to get out and have something to do, besides just sit around all day,” Haddock said. “It gives me something to do, sort of like a hobby I used to enjoy doing all the time.”

Unfortunately, the fish weren’t biting, but Haddock was one of the few who did catch one.
